We are excited to announce auditions for our 11th annual production of

The Nutcracker ballet this holiday season!

• Auditions will be held at Center Stage on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

• CSA Dancers in Beginning Pointe and Pointe 1-4 are eligible to audition for Principal Roles.*

• CSA Ballet students in 6th grade and older may audition for character feature roles (Jr. Principal).*

• Boys 3rd grade and up may also audition for Principal or Jr. Principal Roles. *

Dancers who are cast in a role en pointe will be required to attend a choreography workshop September 9-10, 2023. In addition, any dancer cast in a principal role will rehearse on Saturday or Sunday afternoons and often other rehearsal times during the week as the performance date nears. Dancers cast in a principal role should be available for rehearsals all weekends in November. Please plan accordingly.

Audition Information: 

• Dancers should fill out the Nutcracker Audition Form via the link below. This will signify he or she intends to audition.  

• Each dancer will then be notified of an audition time prior to August 19th.  

• Auditions will begin at 10am and run most of the day.

• If a dancer does not fill out the form, they will not be given an audition time.  

• Auditions begin promptly at your appointed time. Please arrive early enough to prepare to dance.

• Dancers should be properly groomed for ballet class and bring both pointe (if en pointe) and flat shoes.

*Please note: As with all auditions, there will be some dancers who are not cast in principal roles in the production as there are only a limited number of roles to be cast. It is important to understand this before auditioning and for parents to help prepare their children for this possibility.

Note for all ballet parents!

 

Each ballet class will perform one dance in The Nutcracker! Ballet dancers in Kindergarten, Junior, Intermediate and Advanced ballet classes need not audition, as they are directly cast in suitably challenging roles by the Ballet Department Staff. The audition date above is only for Principal and Jr. Principal "additional" roles.

 

The Class Role Casting (which classes are Gingersnaps, Party Children, etc...) will be announced in September. Most rehearsals will be during class time; however, there will be a few extra practices later in the fall. While we hope that all of our ballet students will perform in the Nutcracker, participation is not required. Rehearsals will be only a portion of class time and will reflect technical concepts students are learning.
