Center Stage Dance Programs 2008-2009

All classes are held once a week for 55 minutes unless otherwise noted.

PRE-SCHOOL PERFORMERS

CREATIVE MOVEMENT
A fun, 30 minute creative movement class focusing on dexterity, balance, and socialization skills. Use of special props makes learning a blast in these exciting classes for your toddler. Classes are kept to a maximum of 6 students.
Ages: 2 (must be 2 by the first day of class).

PRE-COMBO I
A 45 minute class with instruction in tap, pre-ballet, and tumbling focusing on developing balance, coordination, gross-motor skills, as well as socialization and listening skills. Students also sing with some routines. Classes are structured in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
Ages: 3 to 5 years (pre-kindergarten) with no previous dance experience.

PRE-COMBO II
A 45 minute class structured as a continuation of skills learned in PRE-COMBO I but only for students who have completed PRE-COMBO I.
Ages: 4 to 5 years (pre-kindergarten) with dancing experience.

K-3rd GRADE PERFORMERS

TAP AND JAZZ COMBINATION
These high-energy classes are offered at the beginner and intermediate levels. Students receive instruction in tap and jazz technique, combinations, and progressions. Emphasis is placed on proper placement and terminology as to progress students on to individual classes in each discipline of dance.
Ages: 5 (Kindergarten) - 8

BALLET
This class focuses on developing the fundamentals of ballet necessary to progress in this discipline. Student must be highly motivated and dedicated to the art of ballet.
Ages: 5 (kindergarten) and up

HIP HOP
These classes are open to beginning and experienced dance students. HIP HOP is a blend of today’s “street style” and boasts that everyone can take part making this style the latest trend. Because the study of HIP HOP does not include fundamental dance technique, students enrolling in HIP HOP at this age must also be enrolled in a combo or ballet class.
Ages: 5 (Kindergarten) and up.

4TH GRADE AND UP PERFORMERS

BALLET
Ballet class is for those who wish to develop grace, poise, and discover the beauty of dance. Classes are offered in all levels from beginner to advanced. Advanced classes meet for 1 hour & 25 minutes. Pre-Pointe and Pointe classes are available to those invited students with appropriate experience and teacher recommendation.
Ages: 9 & up.

TAP
This class is a continuation of the skills learned in combination classes. Focus is placed on proper technique, sound production, correct placement, and rhythm. A variety of styles including show, rhythm, cultural, and street are studied. Classes are either 30 or 45 minutes.
Ages: 9 & up.

JAZZ
This class is a continuation of the jazz skills learned in combination classes and is also offered to new dancers. Classes are offered at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Beginning jazz classes not only stress basic fundamentals, combinations, and techniques, but also are “just plain fun”! As the student progresses, focus is strongly placed on placement and technique. Classes introduce diverse styles including hip hop, character, swing, and traditional jazz.
Ages: 9 and up.

LYRICAL
Lyrical class (a combination of ballet and jazz with the expression of direct and intense emotion) stresses dance fundamentals, flexibility, and technique. This class is open to recommended students 7th grade and up with teacher recommendation. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet or jazz class.
Ages: 7th grade and up.

HIP HOP
These classes are open to beginning and experienced dance students. HIP HOP is a blend of today’s “street style” dancing and boasts that everyone can take part making this style the latest phenomenon. Depending on the level & length of the class students must also be registered for a technique class (ballet or jazz). Classes are either 30 or 55 minutes.
Ages: 9 and up.

LEAPS AND TURNS
This non-performance class focuses on strengthening jazz and ballet techniques central to advanced performance. Class time will concentrate on leaps, turns, and combination dance movements with “tricks” incorporated. Emphasis will be strongly placed on the study of flexibility, balance, and control. This class required for Company members.

Musical Theatre Programs

All classes are held once a week for 55 minutes.

MUSICAL THEATRE AND ACTING STUDY
These classes offer an intense look at the field of theatre with special emphasis placed on improvisation, acting study, theatre lingo, backstage study, and correct usage of the voice through breathing and vocal exercises. Special attention is paid to vocal quality, character, personality, expression, and staging. Beginning musical theatre classes focus on projection, articulation, theatre terms, character development, expression, and confident performing. Students enrolled in Musical Theatre have the opportunity to audition for and participate in Center Stage's Children's Theatre Company.
Ages: 5 (Kindergarten) and up.

Center Stage Music Program

Center Stage Academy offers private music instruction in piano and guitar.
Lessons are 30 minutes per week and should be arranged at the front desk.

Private Instruction

Center Stage offers private instruction in the following areas:
  • Tap, jazz, ballet, voice, song and dance, swing, and acting. Times are arranged individually with the teacher and usually meet for 30 minutes a week.
